And on the matter of “graven images” — carved statues — Israelites were absolutely rigorous; NO ARCHEOLOGIST HAS EVER EXCAVATED A STATUE OF YAHWEH!
Such rigor indicates not only a powerful sense of difference from other Near Eastern cultures (in which idol worship was widespread) but also a somewhat more interior notion of God (which, however, did not preclude sacrifices and burnt offerings to him).

You have no idea what you are talking about. The golden calf was a STATUE, not a picture. A picture cannot be an idol unless YOU idolize it. In Exodus 20: 4, God is not forbidding representational art — just representation of DIVINE THINGS, and specifically to the Israelites, CARVED IMAGES OF DIVINE THINGS. Among all ancient deities, Yahweh is uniquely abstract, and the most insistent not only on his ineffability but also on his singularity (all other gods are “false”).

If you read the bible you will see that the God of Israel promised Hagar that he would bless her offspring (through Ishmael) and bring many kings from the line of the arabs. After Jesus was risen to heaven, the prophetic lineage of David ENDED, so God fufilled his covenant with Hagar through the prophet Muhamed who was a descended of Ishmael. He did not do …
He did not do anything with the image of Jesus. The Lord taught Muhammed that pictures of Jesus, Mary, and others are FALSE IDOLS. He did not allow anyone to paint his picture so that the Muslims will not fall into idolatry as the Christians had done with Jesus and as the Jews had done with the Golden Calfs as mentioned in the Koran.
