    The bible says …
The bible says CONFESS TO ONE ANOTHER. It doesn’t say confess to one group and then that group confesses to another group it says confess to one another. Acutally read the bible and what it says and stop letting the Pope tell you what to believe.

    Priests confess …
Priests confess their sins to other priests…..not to the laity. You need to study the Bible with an open heart instead of preconceived notions.

    The scripture says …
The scripture says “confess to each other”, but it never specifically says for all believers to confess to all other believers. It does say, in John 20:23, that the apostles had the power to forgive or retain sins. This power came from Christ. Catholics believe that priests also have this power so that people today can confess their sins and the priests (acting only through Christ) can forgive those sins just as was detailed in John 20:23.

    Thats not what the …
Thats not what the scripture says nor is it what I asked. The scripture says CONFESS TO EACH OTHER. IF I go and confess to you you then turn around and confess to me not I confess to you as a medium between myself and God and then you go and confess to someone else. Thats complete flim flam that you catholics practice but is completely unfounded. Protestants of course agree that the apostles had power. WE actually follow what the bible says.

    “So having gone to …
“So having gone to confession does the Priest ever confess his sins to you?”
He confesses his sins to another priest. Even the pope goes to confession.
The John 20:21-25 quote had this significance: “If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” Jesus gave this power to his apostles. Do Protestants believe that any human ever had this power? If not, then they disagree with scripture.

    SKYSPLASH, you made …
SKYSPLASH, you made this comment a year ago, but I am amazed that you are using Matthew 7:22-23 for your argument. Go back to verse 21:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
It directly correlates to the “sheep and goats” parable (Matthew 25:31-46). Read that one. Those who did ACTIONS for God go to paradise. Those who only said his name were turned away.

    Yeah…me too. God …
    Yeah…me too. God Bless!

its gettin late I enjoy this debate and will pick up tomorrow. Good night friend.

    So having gone to …
So having gone to confession does the Priest ever confess his sins to you? No he doesn’t thats a null point.

What does Jesus healing a man with the palsy (KJV) have to do with priest forgiving sins?

This is in reguard to Jesus sending the disciples out to preach correct? How does this relate to Catholic priest.

  10. BigDink57

    Sorry for all of …
Sorry for all of the poor spelling!

  11. BigDink57

    No…you are …
No…you are puttinf the cart before the horse. God has reached down to us in His Eternal grace and saved us…no Catholic will ever tell you otherwise…if they do, then they following the Church Teachings. The problems with “works” is when it’s left out of the equation……..Ex: I am saved on Tuesday Night…and I wake up the next morning and die in a shootout with police while robbing a bank. I process, I kill three policemen…am I assured of Heaven?

    you or whoever is. …
you or whoever is. That is something for that person and Christ to know. Faith isn’t something easy to keep. Maybe in America but in vietnam, china and russia where being a christian can result in imprisionment, beatings and even death faith isn’t easy. and if you have faith in christ you will be obediant because you will believe christ warings about he lake of fire and hell.

  13. BigDink57

    I’m really not sure …
I’m really not sure what the “Reformed” world is lookinf for in terms of an apology? We uses statues that represent to us the virtues of the Saints, The Holy Mother, and Our Lord Jesus to us. They are sculpted, painted, even songs are written….all of which could be judged to be “idols” by the willing.

  14. Nephilim145

    Actually faith by …
Actually faith by works is far easier. See as long as you DO good things then you are ok. Well if thats the case then the biggest homosexual can be saved so long as he believes and works at a soup kitchen when he does his homosexual deeds. Lets look at these catholic priest who molest boys and then get hidden away. Hey all they gotta do is say some hail mary’s and do some good works and its all right. Where as salvation by faith is something only you can know about. I don’t knw how faithful

    “apocryphal text ” …
“apocryphal text ” …I don’t see why not…who excised these books from the Bible?

  16. BigDink57

    Father is a …
Father is a religious name given to religious leaders that has been used since the time of Abraham….Paul(?) even refers to Abraham as “Father Abraham” in Hebrews. The admonition is referring to what you just said…no one is FATHER but God himself. I think this has been a source of confusion for too long and it is semantically driven.

    lol u work quick. …
lol u work quick. The ark was commissioned BY GOD. GOD told them make the Cherebum but guess what he also did. He told the priest to hide it from public view. why probably didn’t want any idolotry going on. Did you point to the book of wisdom? Please don’t tell me u want an apocryphal text to be counted as holy scripture. The bible isn’;t a graven image. Its a book that we read and take as our moral authority. We don’t bow to it or worship it.

    Get up, take your …
Get up, take your mat and go home.” 7And the man got up and went home. 8When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to men.

John 20:21-25 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

  19. BigDink57

    In terms of man’s …
    In terms of man’s confessions:
JAMES 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

Matthew 9:6-8 But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins….” Then he said to the paralytic,

    You tell me.
    You tell me.

  21. Nephilim145

    Matthew 23:9 says …
Matthew 23:9 says to call no man father yet you call the Pope HOLY FATHER. Umm isn’t that reserved for God. Exodus and Dueteronomy tell you not to make and bow to idols yet you bow to a monsterance when you’re in its presence. You confess to priest and pray hail mary’s. In the sermon on the mount Jesus said when you pray, pray OUR FATHER. Not hail mary full of grace. c’mon. Nothing like that is called for or even acceptable biblically speaking. Its man made traditions.

  22. BigDink57

    Graven Image:

    Graven Image:

Nevertheless, already in the Old Testament, God ordained or permitted the making of images that pointed symbolically toward salvation by the incarnate Word: so it was with the bronze serpent, the ark of the covenant, and the cherubim. Some would even say the Bible is a “graven image” as used by the Protestants.

    Num 21:4-9; Wis 16:5-14; Jn 3:14-15; Ex 25:10-22; 1 Kings 6:23-28; 7:23-26.

    (con) who remained …
(con) who remained faithful, and the horrors of so many wars of religion, we have Luther’s own testimony as to the evil results of his teaching (see Janssen, “History of the German People”, Eng. tr., vol. V, London and St. Louis, 1908, 27-83, where each quotation is documented by a reference to Luther’s works as published by de Wette).

  24. Nephilim145

    Lets say you are …
Lets say you are correct (your not but lets just say) there are so many unbiblical doctrins in catholicism that its hard to say on that one point alone you left us to join them. So now you beleive that mary is a co redemptrix in heaven or that shes the queen of heaven? Not biblical. The book of Dueteronomy tells us not to make images of anything in the heavens, animal or people male or female. Yet you venerate mary and saints and statues of them and bow to them in contravention to the bible

  25. BigDink57

    (con.) As a matter …
(con.) As a matter of history, public morality did at once deteriorate to an appalling degree wherever Protestantism was introduced. Not to mention the robberies of Church goods, brutal treatment meted out to the clergy, secular and regular,
